Battling the hot summer weather without the help of an air conditioner can be challenging. Compared to standard air conditioners, portable air conditioners aren't so effective at cooling a room. However, if the apartment you're renting doesn't allow protruding AC units, or you don't have enough funds to buy an exquisite AC system, portable ones are a better option than drowning in your sweat.
Understand How the Appliance Functions
This unit takes all the warm and hot air from your living space, cools it, and returns the cooled air to the room. It has a drainage hose that takes out excess warm air from the house. Once you place this hose at the window, follow these installation steps.
1. Read the Manufacturer Guidelines
Read and look closely at the installation procedures outlined by the manufacturer. The guide will help you understand the specifics of the unit. After reading it, save the manual for future use and any warranty that accompanies the appliance.
2. Choose an Appropriate Location
Place the unit close to an electrical socket and a window. Ensure obstructions such as a closet will not interfere with the airflow. A close socket safeguards you from electrical shock if the electrical wire used is unsecured.
Avoid using extension cords as they may cause a fire. Refer to the user manual to follow the minimum clearance space the unit should have during installation.
3. Assess the Window Venting Kit
Determine if you have all the critical parts needed for the installation to be successful. Check if you have vent hose adapters, exhaust connector, window slider connector, among other specifics. Also, determine if the window bracket fits your window. Improvise if it doesn't: expand it using cardboard if you want it to be compatible with your window. After that, install it in the window.
4. Connect the Drainage and Ventilation Hose
Proceed and connect the ventilation hose to the kit you placed in the window. Ensure no space between the connection point; if there is, seal it using duct tape. Then attach the remaining end of the hose to the appliance. After that, attach the drainage hose to the unit and attach the other end to a drainage point. Lastly, plug this appliance into a socket and turn it on. Ensure you maintain it by regularly contacting air conditioning services experts to keep it in tip-top shape.
Installing a portable air conditioner is easy. Follow the procedures mentioned above and install your unit. If it develops any problems, contact air conditioning services.
